Kent Schnepp is a photographer drawn to the moments that only show up if you wait for them: a horse locking onto a cow, a barrel racer laying down a clean run, a rider settling into the saddle before the gate opens. His work lives in reining pens, cutting arenas, and rodeo grounds, where the light is harsh and the timing doesn't forgive mistakes.

Photography found Kent the way most good things do, slowly, then all at once. What started as a way to document days outdoors became a practice of its own, learning to read light, anticipate movement, and find the frame before the moment arrives. He shoots on location, almost always outside, almost always in pursuit of something.

The dirt is where he spends most of his time now. A good horse working a cow, or a rider holding still a half second before everything moves at once, demands the same patience as any other discipline. You wait, you watch, and you're ready when it happens fast.

Skiing is where Kent got his start, chasing alpine race lines and the kind of light that only shows up for a few minutes above treeline. Shotgun sports (trap, skeet, and sporting clays) round out the work, calling for the same stillness and timing as everything else he shoots.
